Imagery and Meditation on the Compassionate Heart
Whatever our religion or tradition
might be, Christmas offers all of us the opportunity to remember the birth of one man, Jesus of Nazareth, who has taught
us much about peace, tolerance, compassionate love and service. Whatever our beliefs might be about the way Life works,
and whomever our spiritual teachers might be, this is a wonderful time to take a minute to find the place within where All Truths
converge --- and do this:
Gently take your attention to your physical heart and imagine that it is the stable, the
humble and earthy barn where a birth is taking place. Imagine that an infant is just now being born, placed in a manger
.....and feel your awe about new life, awe about a newborn baby. Stay with this feeling awhile, the way you behold
a newborn. Allow yourself to really FEEL the wonder of it all. Breathe deeply. This new baby is bringing a spark
of pure white Light into your heart, Light so bright that any darkness within is dispelled. Allow that spark of
holy Light to become a candle flame within your heart, the eternal candle flame that it truly is.....and stay conscious
of the sacred fire there, in your chest, throughout the New Year --- remembering and looking to that flame often.
The infant Jesus, for me, is about birthing the capacity for compassion, the very best quality of which you/we are capable.
And your heart is a precious jewel within your chest, your earthy stable. May you go there often and love yourself
'til the cows come home.....and love the cows, all the animals who represent our primitive, earthy instinctual energies. Love
the trio of wise men who reflect our visionary, intuitive capacities. And love the rest of us humans, too, in the New Year!
